THRICEThe ALCHEMY INDEX VOLS. I & II: Fire & Water
This is Part one and two of Thrice’s four part Concept album cycle, Earth, Wind, Fire and Air
You get two discs with a six song set on each.
Part one, Fire, continues on the melodic slow and low path that leans almost to stoner rock at times in the vane of Isis. It has the intensity of the 2005 release Vheissu, with crushing drowning guitars and vocals that sound like screaming in to a wind storm.
Part two, Water, has more of an experimental feel, synth-heavy and almost electronica at times. This record might open the doors to some new fans but might be too much for old fans to get into.
It’s not something you wanna crank up in your car while driving at night for fear of falling asleep at the wheel. Think of it as a sound track for hardcore and metal kids to have sex to. Light some candles in a dark room, spark up a joint and appreciate it for what it is, don’t compare it to their early records and you might just get into it.
