Champion et ses G-Strings Live
With his infectious ‘No Heaven’ getting massive airplay all around our fair country, Champion packed his G-strings and, along with the soulful singing of Betty Bonifassi, hit the road. This CD/DVD package is a record of one such show. The audio portion of the package is the weaker half, simply because, as anyone who has seen Champion live will attest, half the enjoyment is seeing and enjoying the band and all its visual adornments live. As with other electronic based ‘live’ CDs, the aural excitement just doesn’t translate as well without the sweat stains and strobe-light accompaniment.
The DVD manages far better. With limited editing and mostly stationary cameras, the aural experience is heightened and even offers some worthy visuals that expand upon the music which, when it comes down to it, is ok at best.
Unless you’re a huge Champion fan or have a disco in your living room, it’s not worth the buy. Champion is still young and will continue to tour well into the next decade. Save your cash and see him when he comes to your town.
